Talks about Beckham. What do you think?
Posted On 08/17/2007 00:49:58

Everthing is said about Beckham.

He scored yesterday in the supeliga against DC united and assisted Donovan.

"David Beckham is more of a pop star than a player."

So says Pele, the Brazilian who can lay claim to being the finest footballer the world has ever seen.

He also had a spell in America in the 1970s, and he has urged Beckham to forget the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and concentrate on his football.

Do you think Beckham will be able to focus on his game despite all the attractions of Los Angeles?

these are some clashes english versus american : Enjoy!

"beckham's too good for america - if they dont like him then he should come back to civilisation."

Most American football fans are happy to see him...and we'll be even more happy when he's 100%...and we be really happy when he hits the pitch for England and provides actual goal scoring."

"Can't believe the Yanks are dissing Becks for being injured!!! We know they know sweet FA about football (sorry, 'soccer') but this takes it to another level! Anyone who knows anything about football will know Becks has NEVER given less than 100% in any game he's ever played in. Look at his reaction when he scored. Take the money & run Becks... they don't deserve you!!"

"Us yanks are just anxious to see him play and disappointed. Not so much "dissing".
Many of real football fans in the USA know the real about Beckham as a player. And we're rooting for him to get healthy..and hit the pitch for England.
That why I'm a fan of Becks, when his country calls, he's there...I respect that."

David Beckham's MLS debut causes TV ratings jump

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — David Beckham's presence immediately doubled the television rating for his Major League Soccer debut.

D.C. United's 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday night received an average rating of 0.45 on ESPN2, the network said Friday. That translates to 422,000 households.

Beckham, who has been bothered by a bad ankle since joining the Galaxy last month, entered in the game's 72nd minute. From 8:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m EDT, the game had a 0.5 rating. For the next 15 minutes, when Beckham came on as a second-half substitute, the rating increased to 0.6. It then jumped to 0.8 from 8:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Thursday's game attracted the most households for an MLS telecast on ESPN2. On ESPN, his brief appearance in a July 21 exhibition against England's Chelsea attracted a 1.0 rating and was watched by an average of 947,000 homes.

Beckham Hopes to Make Official Debut for LA Galaxy at RFK Stadium

We are all waiting for him.

Every body talk about LA galaxy but their situation is not stable yet. The marketing exposure is there but we are waiting for more result.
David Beckham could finally make his debut in the Major League Soccer Thursday night when LA Galaxy plays against DC United at RFK Stadium.

The British player has been fighting an ankle injury since he went on the field against Chelsea for only 12 minutes, but promised to do his best for a first official appearance in Washington.

Fans are clearly getting anxious to see some action from the 32-year-old midfielder after the owners offered him a substantial salary, well above the MLS average and even changed the club’s image to mark this resonant acquisition.

“It's looking up. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully I'll get out there playing soon,” the British football star said when asked about his health condition.

Beckham said he completely understands the fans that are waiting for him to display the skills that brought him international fame and some heavy bank accounts. But he stressed that “it’s a sports injury” and not a caprice like some said.

The team’s play is clearly not working as the management hoped it will and Becks’ experience would be most welcomed at this point, but until now coach Frank Yallop has been understanding with his player’s condition and said Beckham will play when he feels “fit and ready.”

“We'll put him out there when he's fit and ready to go. He's getting close. We're not going to force him,” Yallop said.

 Let's the show begin!!!!

MLS expansion idea...can't get worst
Posted On 08/04/2007 18:14:23

Caught this story on The Offside Rules (one of the best and perhaps the most unique soccer blog out on the net).

I know Peter Wilt, at one point, was very much in consideration for a MLS franchise to go to Milwaukee. But now the Milwaukee idea has come down to a movable field inside of a NASCAR track.

I will say this once and hope to never say this again. NASCAR and MLS do not mix. Fans want a game experience in which they are close to the field. A soccer field inside of a NASCAR oval would put the fans so far away from the field, that they might as well watch from home.

The worst part of this whole concept is that MLS gave this project the provisional "OK" so they could move to Step B, whatever that may be.

I know you want to welcome new investors MLS, but this is not the way to go.

New MLS teams
Posted On 08/04/2007 18:05:15

The recent announcement that the San Jose Earthquakes will be returning to the pitch next season was warmly heralded throughout the league. The announcement likely also invoked a few grimaces and winces from the groups working to bring a MLS expansion team to their cities. MLS Commissioner Don Garber has previously announced that the league hopes to expand to 16 teams by 2010. San Jose's reentry raises the amount of teams in the league to 14 teams leaving two precious spots for theremaining candidate cities.

While there has been a flurry of rumor and innuendo in the preceding months, few concrete expansion plans have emerged. While a well-funded angle investor might swoop in and plant a team anywhere, reports have identified these cities/regions as contenders: Cleveland, Phoenix, Philadelphia/Delaware, Milwaukee, Oklahoma, Rochester, Seattle, Atlanta, St. Louis, Portland, Las Vegas and New York.

Over the course of the next two weeks, MSLU will summarize and review each of the plans that have been made public and profile the groups of supporters (e.g., Sons of Ben & Phoenix Rising) who hope to have their MLS dream a reality.

First up Philadelphia . . . .

Lyon waiting on Malouda call
Posted On 06/12/2007 11:31:10

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed he is waiting on a call from an unnamed English club regarding the possible transfer of Florent Malouda.

The France international has previously claimed that both Chelsea and Liverpool have shown their interest, and Lyon now expect further developments in the coming hours.

Malouda has stated his desire to leave Stade Gerland in the summer in search of a new challenge abroad, but Aulas has underlined any potential suitors must match Lyon's asking price.

"About Florent, his transfer fee remains at €25million (£17million)," Aulas told L'Equipe.

"Maybe we will have some news on Tuesday as an English club has to call me soon."

Whilst Malouda looks set to leave Lyon, the French champions are playing hardball over Barcelona target Eric Abidal and now hope the left-back will stay at the club.

Lyon have rejected one offer from the Catalans and Aulas claims the situation is now closed.

The Lyon supremo is also confident of keeping goalkeeper Gregory Coupet - who had previously indicated he could seek out a new challenge.

"About Eric, the door has been closed after Barcelona's proposition," Aulas added.

"Greg will leave on Wednesday for holiday, I have a good hope he will give his final answer before, as we have satisfied almost every one of his wishes."

Aulas also confirmed that Juventus had been in contact regarding former Chelsea midfielder Tiago, meaning a swap deal with David Trezeguet

Henry rejects Barca talk
Posted On 06/12/2007 11:28:54

Arsenal ace Thierry Henry has moved to reject reports that he has agreed a deal with Barcelona.

Reports emanating from France on Monday suggested Henry was on the verge of a move to the Spanish giants after France Football claimed the striker had agreed a three-year deal at Camp Nou.

Henry's representatives rubbished the rumours and are now considering legal action against the French magazine.

Henry, who was in France to play play in the testimonial game for Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson on Monday night, says no decision has been made on his future.

"Nothing is done. I repeat, nothing," Henry told L'Equipe.

"Writing about a meeting that never took place is absolute rubbish.

"At this moment I am an Arsenal player and in the same situation as I was last year.

"Last season people were announcing all over the place that I was leaving. Some people wrote that it would happen for sure but at the end of the day I stayed at Arsenal. It could be the same this year.

"I've not taken any decision and my name is not up on any departures board. If something happens, I will tell everybody."

Henry also admitted he is upset at Arsenal's decision to axe former vice-chairman David Dein in April.

"David Dein's departure was a mistake," added Henry.

"I have said it before and I will say it for the next 20 years. If there was one person who had to stay at Arsenal, it was David Dein."

Meanwhile, Henry's Arsenal and France team-mate William Gallas has suggested Henry should leave the club if he is not happy.

"If certain players want to go, we should not prevent them," Gallas is quoted as saying in the Daily Star.

"I am hungry to win matches and titles. Once you reach the age of 30 the best moments come when you lift a trophy.

"I've begun playing the big brother role with the numerous young players.

"Last season, I was out injured for three months, but still did not give up. I am a warrior, and I battle all the time."
