Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has increased its stake in German pay-television operator Premiere to 19.9 per cent, adding to the 14.6 per cent it acquired last month.
Premiere has over 10 million viewers and more than 4 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. It also owns the rights to show Bundesliga football games.
James Murdoch, News Corp's chairman and chief executive for Europe and Asia said: “We're looking forward to working constructively with Premiere's management on the growth and future direction of the business”.
News Corp lost £1 billion on a previous investment in Premiere in 2002 when the company was owned by Kirch. The company was later floated by private equity group Permira.
